A Ministry Update From the Oil Patch: What God Is Doing Through OCF in Calgary

The oil patch is built on hard work, long hours, and people who know how to get the job done. It is also a place where people carry real questions, real pressures, and real needs.

That is why Calgary Oilfield Christian Fellowship exists.

Our heart is simple: to spread the good news of Jesus Christ within the oilfield industry and to encourage the men and women who work in it. Through outreach breakfasts, Bible distribution, prayer, and fellowship, OCF is building connections and looking for opportunities to point people to the saving grace of Jesus Christ.

God is at work in Calgary and across the oil patch. We are thankful for every worker, company, volunteer, donor, and prayer partner who helps make this ministry possible.

Bringing the oil patch together around the table

One of the main ways OCF serves the oilfield community is through breakfast meetings in downtown Calgary.

These breakfasts bring together oilfield workers, business leaders, companies, ministry supporters, and friends from across the industry. Around the table, people have the opportunity to meet one another, share a meal, hear encouragement, and consider what faith in Jesus Christ means in everyday life.

The breakfast meetings are not about putting on a polished show. They are about creating space for honest conversation and Christian fellowship.

Oilfield work can be demanding. People may spend long stretches away from home, work in remote locations, face changing schedules, or carry the responsibility of leading teams and projects. A breakfast in the middle of downtown Calgary may seem like a small thing, but it can become an important point of connection.

A worker may meet someone who understands the pressures of the industry. A company representative may learn more about how to support Christian outreach in the oil patch. A supporter may discover a practical way to serve. Someone who has been searching for hope may hear the gospel clearly.

The Bible reminds us, “Therefore encourage one another and build one another up” (1 Thessalonians 5:11). That is one of the purposes of OCF breakfasts: to encourage people and help build one another up in faith.

Putting God’s Word for the Oilpatch into workers’ hands

Another important part of the ministry is Bible distribution.

OCF makes available a special Bible called “God’s Word for the Oilpatch.” It is prepared with oilfield workers in mind and is designed to connect Scripture with the working world of the oil patch.

The Bible is more than a book to place on a shelf. It is God’s Word, offering truth, wisdom, correction, comfort, and hope. For someone working away from home or facing a difficult season, a Bible can become a steady companion.

That is why we want to place these Bibles directly into the hands of oilfield workers.

They can be given to co-workers, placed in camp lobbies and common areas, made available in business reception areas, or kept on hand for someone who asks for one. Sometimes the opportunity is simple: a conversation over coffee, a new employee joining a team, or a friend who is going through a hard time.

We do not always know what God will do with a Bible once it has been given. But we know His Word is living and active. Isaiah 55:11 says that God’s Word will not return to Him empty, but will accomplish what He sends it to do.

Every Bible distributed represents an opportunity for someone to open Scripture and encounter the truth of Jesus Christ.

It may be read during a quiet morning before a shift. It may be opened in a camp room after a long day. It may be passed from one worker to another. It may start a conversation that continues for years.

This is why Bible distribution matters. We are not simply moving books from one place to another. We are helping make God’s Word available to people who may not otherwise have a Bible of their own.

The gospel is for the working world

The oilfield includes people from many backgrounds, cultures, and parts of the world. It includes operators, engineers, tradespeople, drivers, supervisors, business owners, students, and many others.

The work may look different from one site to another, but the need for hope is the same.

The gospel of Jesus Christ is not only for a church building or a Sunday morning. It belongs in the workplace, in the camp, at the shop, around the breakfast table, and wherever people live and work.

Paul wrote, “For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth” (Romans 1:16, KJV).

That verse captures the heart of OCF. We want to speak openly and respectfully about Jesus Christ and the salvation He offers. We want oilfield workers to know that God sees them, loves them, and invites them into a relationship with Him.

We also want to encourage Christians already working in the industry. Faith can sometimes feel difficult to live out in a busy or demanding work environment. OCF provides a place where believers can meet, pray, learn, and encourage one another.

No matter where someone is in their spiritual journey, there is room at the table.

How you can take part in the ministry

There are several practical ways to support what God is doing through OCF in Calgary.

Attend a breakfast

Come and join us at the next breakfast. Your presence helps strengthen the fellowship and shows oilfield workers that the Christian community cares about them.

Donate Bibles

Your donation can help place “God’s Word for the Oilpatch” into the hands of workers in camps, businesses, and workplaces. You can also purchase Bibles to give personally to co-workers or friends.

Learn more about the wider OCF Bible Ministry and how God’s Word is being shared in the oilfield.

Help with distribution

If you work in the oil patch, you may have a natural opportunity to help. Bibles can be made available in a reception area, camp common room, or other appropriate location. You can also keep a few copies on hand to give when the opportunity arises.

Pray

Please pray for the workers who receive these Bibles. Pray that they will read them with open hearts and that God will draw them to Himself.

Pray for the OCF volunteers and leaders as they plan breakfasts, connect with companies, distribute Bibles, and have conversations about faith. Pray for wisdom, courage, and opportunities to share the gospel clearly.

And pray for the oilfield industry itself: for safety, stability, strong families, honest leadership, and workers who know that their identity is found in Christ.

Thank you for standing with OCF

This ministry is possible because people are willing to give their time, resources, encouragement, and prayers.

Thank you to everyone who attends our breakfasts, gives toward Bible distribution, helps deliver Bibles, invites others, and prays for the ministry. Your support helps us keep showing up in the places where oilfield workers live and work.

We are trusting God for the next conversation, the next breakfast, the next Bible placed into someone’s hands, and the next person who discovers the hope found in Jesus Christ.

As Psalm 90:17 says, “Let the beauty of the Lord our God be upon us: and establish thou the work of our hands upon us.”

Please join us in praying that God will establish the work of OCF in Calgary and use it to bring encouragement, fellowship, and the good news of Jesus Christ to the oil patch.

Attend the next breakfast. Donate a Bible. Pray for a worker. Invite a friend. There is a place for you in this ministry.
