“I was on top of the world a young tool pusher making a lot of crooked money. Drinking on the rig just about every day. Then in February of 2019, me and my crew traveling back to the yard rolled the tool truck. We were all drunk and we all got fired. Bad news travels fast around Bakersfield. I couldn’t get a job anywhere. I found out I didn’t have as many friends as I thought.
In most cases if you can’t make them money, they really don’t need you. I’ve been through a lot of rough times, but I fell into an all-time low. I couldn’t understand why people would not hire me. I finally got a pushing job 2 months later. It lasted 6 months and the oil fields slowed down. Me and seven other pushers were laid off.
It was right before Thanksgiving, a few days later my heater went out. So, thumb tacking blankets up in hallway with floor heater kept my family warm. I went to church where my wife has been going for 15 years. Pastor Gary Barber of the Oak’s Community Church was preaching that day on giving God your problems. He can handle them, and I did. I said Lord please take my problems and my life, it’s yours show me the way.
I got a call from Ensign who had a rig running spot open. My pride was hurt. Here I am with 22 years of oilfield experience, and some young guy is going to tell me what to do. But I gave it to God, and I rolled with it. My first week on the job I was in the yard working. They wanted me to clean out these old beat-up dog houses. So, I did, and started throwing all the trash out.
Then I opened a drawer and there it was ( GODS WORD FOR THE OIL PATCH BIBLE). I was humbled and I know it was God’s plan to take me back down and remold me into a better godly man. I realized God is always there for me even when everyone else ain’t.

Since that day, I’m closer to God than ever. I’m a member of my church. I’m a born-again Christian. I got baptized on Easter and I’m hungry for the Word of Jesus. I recently ordered a case of these bible’s and three weeks past and I never received them. I emailed out and found John birds email was being changed. He reached out to me, and we had a great conversation. My bibles are on the way now.
Through God and Gods Word for the oil patch I’m still meeting new Christian brothers. I work for Templeton Fishing Tools now, so lots of time between tripping pipe in and out of the hole to read my Bible that I found in that old doghouse, thank you Jesus amen.
Thanks for sharing that Bible John, it changed my life.”
